ASTANA. YESTERDAY - TODAY - TOMORROW

Dear reader!

Our album is dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the capital of sovereign Kazakhstan - Astana. It is one of the youngest capitals of the world community, but nevertheless, has claimed due acknowledgement. We have tried, as much as it is possible, to recount in full of three time periods of the development of this city starting with the history of its occurrence firstly, as a fortress-cum-settlement, which within a relatively short time span turned into an important trading centre of the Great Steppe. Next, are the recounts of the historical role that Akmolinsk played during the Soviet era and lastly the transformation, unprecedented in speed, of this provincial town into the capital of young, sovereign Kazakhstan. As we reflected these dramatic changes positively affecting the image of the old city and the scale of ongoing construction, which beats even the most fantastic of imaginations, the album also showed the people helping to create this new history, revealing their love for city and the efforts to bring into realisation the arduous mission assigned to them.
